Arrival at Bordeaux airport or train station by noon, where you’ll be greeted by your English-speaking, wine expert guide/driver.
Depart for the Médoc, world-renowned for its Classified Growth chateaux, following the “Route des Chateaux” through the famous villages of Margaux, Saint Julien, Pauillac and Saint Estephe.
Enjoy a lovely welcome lunch at one of the finest restaurants in the area, a favorite of local winemakers.
This afternoon, you’ll enjoy tours and tastings at two Grand Cru chateaux as their VIP guests (for example, Chateau Lynch Bages, Chateau Pichon Longueville, Chateau Phélan Ségur or Chateau Palmer).
Check in late afternoon to your luxury 4-star hotel: choose from Relais & Chateaux member hotels Chateau Cordeillan Bages in Pauillac, Hostellerie de Plaisance in Saint Emilion, Les Sources de Caudalie in Martillac, or the brand new Radisson Hotel in the historic district of Bordeaux.
Enjoy dinner tonight at your hotel’s fabulous restaurant, or in one of Bordeaux city’s many fine restaurants. Both Cordeillan Bages and Hostellerie de Plaisance have Michelin-starred restaurants, and there are many fine restaurants in the city of Bordeaux, including Michelin-starred ones. We are happy to make reservations for you at your hotel’s restaurant, or give you a list of suggested restaurants.
Pick-up at 9am on Day 1 is possible if you are already in or close to Bordeaux, with morning activities (chateau visit or Bordeaux city tour).
Travel south to the vineyards of the Graves. The Romans planted some of the first vineyards in the Bordeaux area here, just outside what is now the city limits. Here you will be the guests of Classified Grand Cru Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, where another great tour and tasting awaits you.
The Chateau has a beautiful hotel and spa complex in its vineyards where you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at their lovely country-style restaurant, La Table du Lavoir.
Continue on to Sauternes, the most famous sweet dessert wine appellation in the world. Learn how these delectable wines are made using grapes that have developed the “Noble Rot” during a fascinating tour at one of the best Chateaux in the area (like Guiraud, Suduiraut or Fargues), followed of course by a tasting.
Return to your hotel in the late afternoon for evening on your own.
If you prefer, spend Day 2 in the Médoc or Saint Emilion instead, enjoy some time in the city of Bordeaux, or take some time to golf or enjoy the spa at your hotel (additional fees may apply).
After breakfast at your hotel, depart for Saint Emilion. Known since Roman times for the quality of its wines, the village and vineyards of Saint Emilion are designated today as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take the morning to explore the beautiful medieval village on your own, its monuments and its many shops and galleries (including some of the region’s best wine shops). Your guide can provide a guided tour, if you prefer.
Lunch on your own in Saint Emilion.
VIP tours and tastings at two great Grand Cru estates await you this afternoon, like Chateau Franc Mayne with its ancient underground cellars, or the great 1st Growths Clos Fourtet, Chateau Angelus or Chateau Canon.
Transfer to airport or train station at the end of the afternoon.
