Leaving Moremi following the Khwai River with direction Chobe National Park. On very sandy tracks, our Land Rovers again have to prove their unquestionable off-road capabilities.
Arrival at the Savuti Camp in the afternoon.
Today we have ample time to explore the magnificent Savuti area reknown for its huge herds of elephants. There is also a fairly good chance to encounter lions, as there are usually many of them in this area.
Returning back to our camp at Savuti.
Today we follow the tracks to Chobe River, where we arrive at the Chobe Safari Lodge (near Kasane) in the early afternoon. At about 15:00 we embark for a 3 hour River Cruise and experience wildlife from a different perspective.
For the night we settle at the camp grounds of the Chobe Safari Lodge.
After breakfast we are leaving Botswana, cross the border into Zimbabwe and arrive at Victoria Falls in the early afternoon.
On a walk we admire the spectacular Victoria Falls.
In the evening we leave the bush experience behind and enjoy dinner in "colonial style" at the legendary Victoria Falls Hotel.
Tonight we stay at the nearby campsite of the Inyathi Valley Lodge.
This day can be used at your own discretion, you may want to shop around for souvenirs, do a ‘Flight of Angels’ by plane/helicopter viewing the Falls again, ‘White Water Rafting’, ride on the back of an elephant, etc. (Please note, that all these activities, however, are at your own expense).
Our camp is still at Inyathi Valley Lodge.
Guests who booked the 12 days option "Johannesburg to Victoria Falls", will be transferred to the airport of Victoria Falls for their return flight to Johannesburg. All others will leave Victoria Falls after breakfast and cross the border back into Botswana, heading South to arrive in Nata in the early afternoon.
Visit of the Nata Bird Sanctuary with its prolific birdlife and more than 160 species. During the wet season one can also admire thousands of pink flamingos and pelicans.
For the night we stay over at the beautiful Nata Lodge campsite.
Via Francistown we head Southeast crossing the Limpopo River, border with South Africa. We arrive at our camp right next to the river where the Tuli-Elephants migrate freely between Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
Sculling down the Limpopo River in a rafting boat we will be looking for Elephant, Hippo, Crocodile and the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl – a photographer’s dream!
This early morning we set out for a 3 hours Game Walk accompanied by an armed local ranger. The expedition, takes us deep into the Limpopo flood plain where we not only encounter animals on foot, but also smell them and the Mopane Bush and listen to the diverse voices of this striking area. After a late bush-breakfast we follow the path of Livingstone and Cecil Rhodes on which we climb the majestic Sandstone Hills with their ancient ruins from the 13th century. This ‘African Late Iron Age’ archaeological site lies in the new Mapungubwe National Park and was declared World Heritage Site in July 2003. San Bushman rock paintings and even dinosaur fossils are to be found.
This evening we will enjoy Africa’s nocturnal fauna on a Game Drive at night in an open vehicle.
At early sunrise we join the researchers of the Venetia Wild Dog Project. This endangered species is tracked in the wild via radio signal and we are offered the opportunity to participate in the daily search of the scientists determining the wild dogs pack dynamics and hunting behaviour.
In the afternoon we reach the Waterberg Country Lodge bordering with the Marakele National Park and the adjacent UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for the endangered Cape Vultures.
On our last evening we will enjoy a delicious dinner with South African wine in the lodge’s private dining room. This place combines breathtaking views, quietness and vultures high up in the sky with the comfort of a solid bed.
