Detailed Trip Description

Our escorted tours are at a relaxed pace giving you time to savour each area. This tour combines a safari with an exploration of the scenic delights of the Drakensberg escarpment and Swaziland. It continues in the Eastern Cape with a visit to Addo Elephant Park and Port Elizabeth. Next you travel along the verdant Garden Route and into the dry rugged landscape of the Little Karoo, known for its ostrich farming and limestone caves. It ends with three glorious days in Cape Town.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - 2 - South Africa

 
Game-Viewing in the Sabi Sands.
Airport Transfer

Transfer to Johannesburg airport to board your flight to Hoedspruit.

Private Car Service

Here you transfer to Djuma Game Reserve in the famous Sabi Sands.

Safari

By taking early morning and late afternoon/evening game drives with an experienced game ranger you gain a deeper understanding of the flora and fauna of the area. You have a chance of seeing elephant and large predators such as lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo, as well as many other game animals.

Day 3 - South Africa

 
Blyde River Canyon Tour.
Sightseeing

After a final game drive, you leave Djuma and take a scenic drive along the Blyde River Canyon to visit the Three Rondavels, Bourne’s Luck Potholes and God’s Window. This is a beautiful area of tumbling streams and waterfalls, indigenous woodland & forest plantations.

Food and Dining

The day ends with dinner at the welcoming Chestnut Country Lodge, set on a litchi farm with magnificent mountain and valley views.


Day 4 - South Africa

 
Pilgrim’s Rest and the Sabie Waterfalls.
Sightseeing

Today you visit the Bridal Veil, Lone Creek and Horseshoe Falls and Pilgrim's Rest, a restored mining village that was the centre of a gold rush in the late 19th century and the town’s many restored houses and museums bring this fascinating history alive.


Day 5 - Swaziland

 
Sightseeing

Continue to the Kingdom of Swaziland via Barberton and the Saddleback pass. The Swazis are renowned craftsmen, and you can buy superb examples of basketware, colour fabrics, carvings, and mother of pearl.

Sightseeing

We stop at a couple of craft markets en route to captivating Reilly’s Rock Lodge. With commanding views of Mlilwane’s game-studded plains, the atmosphere is one of peace and tranquillity, with an almost spiritual link to years gone by.


Day 6 - Swaziland

 
Adventure

The morning is at leisure to enjoy one of the following optional activities: gentle horse-riding in Mlilwane Reserve, 18 holes of golf, a White water rafting trip, hiking or some relaxing beauty therapies at the Royal Swazi wellness centre.

Sightseeing

In the afternoon you visit the Mantenga Falls and the Mantenga cultural village. The cultural village is a faithful replication of a middle sized Swazi homestead of a century ago.


Day 7 - South Africa

 
En route to Eastern Cape.
Sightseeing

This morning you visit the Ngwenya glass workshops.

Airport Transfer

Leave Swaziland and head to Johannesburg for your afternoon flight to Port Elizabeth. Flight not included in tour price.

Hotel

On arrival you are transferred to the Addo region to stay at the Woodall Farm or La Provence, set amongst peaceful orchards on a beautiful citrus farm.


Day 8 - South Africa

 
Addo Elephant Park and PE tour.
Safari

Game-viewing in the Addo Elephant Park today, home to herds of elephants and black rhino, hippo, cape buffalo and antelope species.

Sightseeing

Afterwards head to Port Elizabeth for a cultural and historical tour of the city. 75% of the people of Port Elizabeth live in townships.


Day 9 - South Africa

 
Tsitsikamma Forest.
National Parks

Today you travel to the Tsitsikamma region with a short optional walk in Coastal National Park. This is a wild, unspoilt and rugged belt of land, much of it blanketed in dense indigenous forest, and fragmented by winding river valleys.

Private Car Service

Continue to the resort town of Plettenberg Bay and the Robberg Nature Reserve.

Hotel

Spend two nights at the Mallard River Lodge, overlooking a nature reserve and vlei. Accommodation is in five spacious chalets, each with hand-painted murals and wooden verandas.


Day 10 - South Africa

 
Safari

This morning you explore Knysna. You enjoy a lagoon cruise in the morning to the Featherbed Nature Reserve.

Shopping

Afternoon is at leisure to wander around the many interesting shops and art galleries.


Day 11 - South Africa

 
Little Karoo.
Adventure

Continue to the semi-desert rugged region of the Little Karoo along the old Seven Passes road. Cross the spectacular Outeniqua Mountain pass for a conducted tour of an ostrich farm.

Hotel

Spend the night at the La Plume Guest farm. The Victorian homestead has a peaceful view of the lovely Olifants River Valley.


Day 12 - Cape Town

 
Route 62 to Cape Town.
Wine

After breakfast you leave Oudtshoorn on the scenic Route 62 towards Cape Town, visiting some wine estates en route.

Hotel

Stay three nights at the luxurious Radisson Hotel near the V&A Waterfront.


Day 13 - Cape Town

 
Winelands Tour.
Wine

A combination of the favourable effects of the two major ocean currents meeting off the Cape makes the climate in the area perfect for the acres of vineyards. Here you visit some of the wine estates, take a tour of the cellars and also explore the historic towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.


Day 14 - Cape Town

 
Cape Peninsula tour.
Sightseeing

Travel along the coastal drive as it hugs the cold Atlantic Ocean to Hout Bay. Continue to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, said to be the romantic meeting point of two mighty oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian. Stop to visit the unique Jackass penguin colonies at Boulders beach.

Sightseeing

In the afternoon you visit Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens, surely the finest gardens in Africa, nestling on the slopes of Table Mountain.

Food and Dining

This evening you enjoy a farewell dinner at one of Cape Town’s finest restaurants.


Day 15 - Cape Town

 
Cape Town City and Table Mountain.
Historical and Educational Tours

This morning you tour the historical sights of Cape Town.

Sightseeing

You begin with a journey up to the top of Table Mountain for a breathtaking view of the Mother City.

Shopping

The afternoon is at leisure for shopping or pursuing individual interests.

Airport Transfer

In the late afternoon you will be collected from the hotel for your transfer to the airport.
