A three-day adventure through rural Transkei to the heart of Pondoland - Wild Coast. A participatory tour that combines local villages and tented camps along with a variety of adventure activities in and around the beautiful Pondoland and Mkambati Nature Reserve. We have created tours which combine an exhilarating sense of adventure with a strong conservation ethic and a community upliftment component. From a rural village stay in the south to our tented camp at Msikaba in the heart of the open plains of Pondoland in the north we journey by 4x4, horse, foot and canoe exploring the canyons, waterfalls and culture of one of mother natures biodiversity hot-spots.
Early departure from Port St. Johns heading out into the Northern Pondoland region.
Tea at the Magwa Waterfalls where your guide will give you an introduction into the geology and the natural history of this unique part of South Africa. Passing by Fraser Falls we head into the small village of Cutweni where guests will have the opportunity to meet local people form this region. After meeting with our guide, we will head out on the trail over the impressive cliffs of the Cathedral Rock and Waterfall Bluff geological complex.
Picnic style lunch will be served at the top of Cathedral Rock- an impressive rock which broke away from the land to become a monument to this section of the Coastline.
After lunch, we will visit waterfall bluff, a 60 meter free flowing waterfall straight into the Indian Ocean, and Luputhana, where an indescribable show of ocean power, caused by the remarkable geology of this region, awaits us.
We arrive at our overnight luxury tented beach camp.
Crossing the river with mountain bikes, we traverse this exciting reserve with its fascinating flora, fauna and geological landscapes.
Cycle through the reserve amongst herds of Zebra, Eland, Blesbok, Wildebeest, and Baboons and, if we are in luck a rare sighting of leopard. Kloofing [jumping from rocks and waterfalls into crystal clear pools below], swimming and rock scrambling make up the order of the day.
Return to our beach camp for a night of open fires and starry skies.
The Luphutana gorge is one of the Wild Coast’s most exciting floral kingdoms and lies at the epicentre of endemism in Pondoland. Morning is spent kloofing up this gorge with its array of waterfalls, pools, birds and riverine wildlife.
Beach swim at the mouth of the gorge before heading back to Port St Johns to enjoy sundowners from the top of Mt Thesiger overlooking the mighty Umzimvubu River. Drop off in Port St Johns.
