Detailed Trip Description

This programme makes the most of internal flights and self drive car to explore many aspects of South Africa. Spectacular Mpumalanga and game reserves, a leisurely look at the Garden Route and the Whale Coast, with the Mother City experience. The trip can be escorted.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Mpumalanga

 
Arrive Mpumalanga.
Car Rental

Arrive at Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport; you will collect your rental car, for a drive to your hotel.

Hotel

Stay at Blue Mountain or similar.


Day 2-3 - Mpumalanga

 
Sightseeing

You have two full days to explore Mpumalanga. This part of the country includes South Africa’s most beautiful landscapes, including the Blyde River Canyon and Bourke’s Luck Pole holes, as well as the restored goldrush town of Pilgrim’s Rest.

Stay at Blue Mountain or similar.


Day 4 - South Africa

 
Sabi Sands.
Car Rental

This morning drive to Skukuza, where you drop off your rental car to take your place in an open safari vehicle.

Safari

You will be transferred to Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve. This afternoon depart on your first African safari returning to the lodge in time for dinner.

Stay at Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve or similar.


Day 5 - South Africa

 
Sabi Sands.
Safari

A full day to explore the reserve with morning, afternoon, night game drives or walking safaris.

Day 6 - Port Elizabeth

 
Kruger-Johannesburg- Port Elizabeth.
Safari

Enjoy the final game drive.

Commercial Flight

Transfer to Kruger Mpumalanga Airport for your flight to Port Elizabeth via Johannesburg.

Car Rental

Upon arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport collect your rental car for a drive to Hackelwood Hill.

Stay at Hackelwood Hill or similar.


Day 7 - Plettenberg Bay

 
Port Elizabeth- Plettenburg.
Food and Dining

Breakfast at the hotel.

Sightseeing

Take a rewarding meander through the forests and passes of the Garden Route towards Plettenberg Bay. Spend three nights in Plettenberg and explore this area.

Day 8-9 - Plettenberg Bay

 
Sightseeing

Two days to explore the area. There’s plenty to see and do along the Garden Route, or head inland to the Little Karoo for the Ostrich capital of Oudtshoorn.

Day 10 - Plettenberg Bay

 
Plettenburg- Hermanus.
Sightseeing

Take minor roads through the farmland and fynbos of the Overberg Region, past Africa’s southern most point, Hermanus on the "Whale Coast".

The Marine Hotel overlooks the ocean, where whales frolic from June to November. Stay at The Marine Hotel or similar.


Day 11 - South Africa

 
Sightseeing

A full day to explore the rich and unspoilt agricultural landscape.

Day 12 - Cape Town

 
Hermanus- Winelands.
Car Rental

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive west into Cape Town "The Mother City".

Relaxation

Rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 13-14 - Cape Town

 
Sightseeing

Two full days is at leisure to explore Cape Town and surroundings. The Winelands are an easy day trip away, and we highly recommend a tour of the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve (Cape Peninsula).

Day 15 - Cape Town

 
Car Rental

In the afternoon drive to Cape Town International Airport and drop off your rental car before boarding your flight back home.
