Enjoy 47 Days Ultimate European - Egypt tour featuring sightseeing and many activities in France, Spain, Monaco, Italy, Vatican City, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Liechtenstein, Germany, Switzerland, Holland and Belgium (in transit). Options 1 & 2 will visit 16 countries. First travel to Paris to have an evening tour of Illuminations to see the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, the Champs Élysées, and Notre Dame Cathedral. Next it's on to Beaujoliais for a wine tasting and a French picnic lunch. Travel to Provence to see the Roman Aqueduct at Pont du Gard, and the historic city of Arles before heading to Barcelona. In Barcelona walk through the Gothic Quarter and see Gaudi's Art Nouveau Cathedral and the 1992 Olympic Games complex. Need to buy your family some presents? Visit a French Perfumery along the Rivieria. While you're there visit Monaco and see the Royal Palace, Monte Carlo casino, and have a scenic Drive along the Riviera coast. In need of some Romance? See Juliet's Balcony and the Roman Arena in Verona. Take a private motorboat to the historic islands, Murano glass-blowing and Burano lace-making demonstrations, see Piazza San Marco, Bridge of Sighs and the Doges' Palac. In Greece see the first modern Olympic Stadium and in Egypt visit the Egyptian Museum and Bazaar and have a guided tour of the Great Pyramids and Sphinx. Sail on a felucca to the Botanical Gardens, see the Aga Khan Mausoleum and have a guided visit to the Temple of Karnak. Pass Mt. Olympus on a scenic coastal drive. Visit Anzac Cove in Gallipoli, then have a guided visit to Troy. See the Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Markets with a local guide. Next this trip takes you to Sofia to see the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. On to Belgrade to see the Kalemegdan Fortess and the historic old town. In Liechtenstein visit Vaduz and see the Wooden Chapel Bridge in Lucerne. Go to Heidelberg to see the Medieval Castle and then to Rhine Valley to visit the riverside town St. Goar and have a scenic drive along the Rhine River. The last stop of this trip is Amsterdam. There you will visit a cheese farm and clog maker's house in a fishing and cheese village and you will see the canals, gable houses and city by night. Finally have a bicycle tour of the Dutch countryside before returning home.

Check-in to your hotel after 2pm then enjoy the day exploring London. Tonight, meet your Tour Manager and fellow travellers for a pre-departure meeting.


Day 3 - Paris

A warm welcome from your Crew as we head for the White Cliffs of Dover and the Channel crossing to France.

Sightseeing

We drive past World War I battlefields to the splendour of Paris. ( Dinner )


Day 4 - 5 - Paris

 
Sightseeing

Two full days to see some of the most celebrated icons in Europe. The best way to experience the "City of Lights" is on our included Illuminations Tour.

Sightseeing

We also visit the majestic Château Versailles (entry not included), home to Louis XIV. In your free time take the opportunity to visit the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe or the Champs Elysées.

Our journey south today takes us to the impressive Roman aqueduct at Pont du Gard.

As we skim past the Pyrénées we catch our first glimpse of the world-famous Mediterranean and arrive in vibrant Barcelona. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 9 - Barcelona

Our included sightseeing tour is a great introduction to this celebrated city. See Gaudi's Sagrada Familia Cathedral, the 1992 Olympic Complex and the Gothic district.

Shopping

A chance to experience Barcelona's famed shopping street La Rambla and discover some of Spain's specialties.

Tonight why not experience the passion of Flamenco dancing? (Breakfast)


Day 10 - Barcelona

 
Barcelona to French Riviera.

We return to France today and travel through the beautiful Provence region to Arles.

Wander through the streets as the Romans once did in this historic town, before continuing to the glamorous French Riviera. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 11 - Spain

Today we visit a French perfumery before heading to Nice.

Stroll down the fashionable Promenade des Anglais for a spot of shopping or simply relax on the beach.

Tonight we visit Monaco! View the Royal Palace and take the opportunity to try your luck at the casinos of Monte Carlo. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 12 - Venice

Today we leave France and enter Italy! We skim past the seaside city of Genoa and stop in Verona, home of Romeo and Juliet, before arriving in mainland Venice. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 13 - Venice

A short boat ride takes us into the historical centre of Venice to see St. Mark's Square, the Doges' Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs. See glass and lace making demonstrations and why not treat yourself to a gondola ride? ( Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 14 - Florence

 
Venice to Florence.
Sightseeing

We travel to Pisa, home of the famous Leaning Tower. From here it's a short journey to the most spectacular of Renaissance cities, Florence. (Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 15 - Florence

Your day includes a walking tour seeing the Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo and Santa Croce, and a chance to shop for leather, gold and silver.

In your free time maybe visit one of the city's many museums.

Day 16 - Rome

All roads lead to Rome where our included sightseeing tour is the perfect introduction to the Eternal City.

Day 17 - Rome

Once at the centre of the powerful Roman Empire this city, steeped in centuries of ancient history, awaits your discovery. The Colosseum, Imperial Forum and the treasures of the Vatican City make for a day of serious sightseeing. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 18 - Rome

 
Rome to Corfu.

A chance to take a guided tour of the ancient city of Pompeii.

We travel across Italy to board our overnight ferry to Greece. ( Breakfast )


Day 19 - 20 - Italy

Adventure

Two sun-filled days on the beautiful Greek island of Corfu staying at Contiki's Special Stopover. Windsurf, waterski, parasail, swim or just soak up the sun.

Get off the beaten track in an open-top 4-wheel drive jeep or cruise along the coast.

Day 21 - Athens

Today we travel through the Peloponnese and across the Corinth Canal to Athens. ( Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 22 - Cairo

 
Athens to Cairo.

A whole day in Athens where our city tour includes the first modern Olympic stadium, the Acropolis and the Parthenon.

Commercial Flight

This evening we fly to Cairo. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 23 - Cairo

 
Cairo Sightseeing - Overnight train to Aswan.
Sightseeing

Our sightseeing tour starts with the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Giza.

Museums

Later we discover the ancient treasures of the Egyptian Museum accompanied by our local guide.

Train

We board our overnight train this evening. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 24 - Aswan

 
Sightseeing

Enjoy a calming felucca ride across the great Nile River to the elegant Botanical Gardens where you have time to leisurely stroll the length of this unique island.

Nightlife

Tonight enjoy the lively and vibrant atmosphere of Aswan. ( Breakfast )


Day 25 - Luxor

 
Aswan to Luxor.
Sightseeing

This morning a chance to join our fantastic excursion to Abu Simbel, the most complete example of ancient Egyptian architecture in existence. Built over 3000 years ago, the temples were moved to their present site, safely above the waters of Lake Nasser less than 50 years ago!

Train

This afternoon we journey by train to Luxor to view the vast temples of Karnak and Luxor. ( Breakfast )


Day 26 - Luxor

 
Luxor to Red Sea.
Sightseeing

This morning a chance to visit the Necropolis of Thebes in the Valley of the Kings, burial site of the pharoah King Tutankhamun.

This afternoon we drive across the desert to the Red Sea resort of Hurghada. (Breakfast)


Day 27 - Cairo

 
Red Sea to Cairo.
Sightseeing

Back to the capital where you will have time to perfect your bargaining skills in the colourful bazaars of Cairo.

Later, be impressed by the grand and ornate mosques of the city on a tour with our local guide. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 28 - Athens

 
Cairo to Athens.
Commercial Flight

Transfer to Cairo airport for our flight to Athens, where we rejoin our fellow travellers. ( Breakfast )


Day 29 - Kavala

 
Athens to Kavala.

We drive past Spartan Thermopylae and Thessaloniki, once the capital of the Byzantine Empire.

Then on to our seaside overnight stop at Kavala. ( Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 30 - Kavala

 
Kavala to Cannakale.

After crossing the border into Turkey we cross the Dardanelles to see Troy's Wooden Horse. ( Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 31 - Istanbul

 
Cannakale to Istanbul.

We take time to pay tribute at Gallipoli and Anzac Cove.

Food and Dining

Travel onwards to Istanbul where you'll have a chance to revel in a night of belly dancing, eastern food, and music. (Breakfast)


Day 32 - 33 - Istanbul

Two full days to enjoy this amazing city. Join a local guide in the spice markets and the heart of the city.

Day 34 - Sofia

 
Istanbul to Sofia.

We pass the Turkish border town of Edirne before crossing into Bulgaria and driving to the capital, Sofia.

Following the Danube River north today, we make our way to the jewel in the crown of Hungary, the capital city of Budapest.

Sightseeing takes in the quaint hill-top Buda and bustling Pest, before we walk into the home of Mozart and Strauss to see the splendours of the once mighty Austrian Empire.

A spectacular day where you can choose to hike the many trails or maybe enjoy a trip up the snow-covered Jungfrau mountain on a cog railway that passes through the Eiger mountain! ( Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 44 - Germany

 
Swiss Alps to Rhine Valley.

Heading north we re-enter Germany and visit the university town of Heidelberg on the banks of the Neckar River.

Tonight we stay in the picturesque Rhine Valley after seeing the famous Lorelei and hearing how German beersteins are crafted in St. Goar. ( Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 45 - Amsterdam

 
Rhine Valley to Amsterdam.

We cross the Dutch border and make our way towards Amsterdam. Visit a cheese farm and see how clogs are made.

Bicycling

Cycle through the countryside and the village of Edam.

Day 46 - Amsterdam

This morning why not take a canal bike ride to further explore Amsterdam? In your free time perhaps visit famous sights such as Anne Frank's House or the Van Gogh Museum.
