Detailed Trip Description

Enjoy 20 Days European Impressions tour featuring sightseeing and many activities in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, France, Monaco and Spain. This trip starts in Brussels where you will have the chance to see the Statue of the Mannekin Pis, the Grand Place & the Palace of Justice, before heading to Amsterdam where you will have the opportunity to visit a fishing and cheese village and a cheese farm & clog maker's house. Be sure to check out Amsterdam by night before heading off on a scenic drive along the Rhine River in the Rhine Valley. There you will visit the riverside town of St. Goar. The next stop on the tour is Lucerne. There you will see the Wooden Chaple Bridge, the Lion Monument and take a scenic drive through the Alps. On the way to visit the Glockenspiel & Marienplatz in Munich you will visit the Capital of Liechtenstein, Vaduz. Check out the Golden Roof, Royal Palace & Olympic Ski Jump in Innsbruck. Then get on a private motorboat that will bring you to Venice. Onece in Venice you will see Piazza San Marco, Bridge of Sighs and the Doges' Palace, and watch Murano glass-blowing & Burano lace-making demonstrations. Florence is next on the agenda. There you will take a walking tour with a local guide, you will see the Duomo, Basilica Santa Croce, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry & Piazza della Signoria. A Florentine leather craft demonstration is planned in Florence, before making your way to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower. From Pisa you will be making your way to the French Riviera. There you will visit a French Perfumery, take a scenic drive along the Riviera coast, visit Monaco and see the Royal Palace and a Monte Carlo casino. Your time in the French Riviera wraps up with a nice visit to Nice and its beaches. Barcelona will be the next stop. There you will see Gaudi's Art Nouveau Cathedral & the 1992 Olympic Games complex, and walk through the Gothic Quarter and La Rambla. You will then visit the hilltop walled city known as Carcassone before heading to your evening Tour of Illuminations in Paris. In Paris, see the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, the Champs Élysées, and Notre Dame Cathedral.

Day 1 - On the Plane

Day 2 - London

 
Arrive London.
Hotel

Check-in to your hotel after 2pm.

Sightseeing

Then enjoy the day exploring London. Tonight, meet your Contiki Tour Manager and fellow travellers for a pre-departure meeting.


Day 3 - Brussels

 
London to Brussels.
Sightseeing

A warm welcome from your Contiki Crew as we head for the White Cliffs of Dover and Channel crossing to France. It's a short drive to Belgium and its capital, Brussels.

Sightseeing

See the medieval buildings of the Grand Place and the intriguing Mannekin-Pis and make sure you take the time to try some Belgian specialities - waffles, chocolate and beer! ( Dinner )


Day 4 - Amsterdam

 
Brussels to Amsterdam.
Bus

This morning we leave Brussels and arrive in the vibrant city of Amsterdam.

Museums

Spend time wandering along the canals, shopping or visiting a famous museum such as the Van Gogh Museum or Anne Frank's House.

Food and Dining

Tonight, why not join us for dinner in a local fishing village? (Breakfast)


Day 5 - Amsterdam

 
Amsterdam to Rhine Valley.
Bus

We cross the German border and head for the stunning Rhine Valley.

River, Barge or Yacht Cruise

At St. Goar we take a Rhine river cruise past vineyards, fairy-tale castles and the legendary Lorelei rock before learning how beersteins are crafted. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 6 - Lucerne

 
Rhine Valley to Lucerne.
Sightseeing

Our path takes us toward the towering Alps and vast serene lakes of Switzerland.

This afternoon the opportunity to explore the peak of one of Switzerland's most dramatic mountains - Mt. Pilatus. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 7 - Lucerne

 
Sightseeing

Spend the day exploring this beautiful lakeside town.

See the Lion Monument, walk across the Chapel Bridge and wander the cobbled streets shopping for watches, chocolate and Swiss Army knives.

Sailboat & Yacht Charter

The best way to appreciate the spectacular scenery is on a lake cruise - why not join us on one this afternoon? ( Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 8 - Munich

 
Lucerne to Munich.
Sightseeing

We stop for lunch in the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein before crossing into Germany and Bavaria's lively capital Munich, home to the Oktoberfest.

Shopping

View sights such as the animated Glockenspiel, stroll through the shopping streets.

Food and Dining

Maybe take the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a local beerhall. (Breakfast)


Day 9 - Venice

 
Munich to Venice.
Sightseeing

Today we travel south through Austria and the astonishing beauty of the Brenner Pass to cross the border into Italy.

Hotel

Tonight we stay on the mainland of Venice. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 10 - Venice

 
Sightseeing

A short boat ride takes us into the historical centre of Venice to see St Mark's Square, the Bridge of Sighs and the Doges' Palace. Ample time to wander the bustling streets, see the skill required to create local crafts such as Venetian glass and fine lace and visit one of the many amazing museums.

Food and Dining

Why not treat yourself to a gondola ride and evening meal with your fellow travellers as a perfect end to your Venetian experience? (Breakfast)


Day 11 - Florence

 
Venice to Florence.
Bus

We wind through the Apennine Mountains towards the gorgeous region of Tuscany.

Sightseeing

We visit Pisa to see the world-famous Leaning Tower and Baptistry.

Sightseeing

This evening enjoy the chance to stroll through the streets of this most spectacular of Renaissance cities, Florence. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 12 - Florence

 
Sightseeing

The day includes a walking tour of the Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo and Santa Croce, and a chance to shop for leather, gold and silver.

Museums

In your free time maybe visit one of the city's many museums or galleries.

Nightlife

This evening enjoy the colourful Florentine nightlife. ( Breakfast )


Day 13 - Florence

 
Florence to French Riviera.
Sightseeing

We drive through the Tuscan countryside before reaching the French Riviera and visiting a French perfumery.

Tonight we visit Monaco! Why not join us for an elegant meal, view the Royal Palace and take the opportunity to try your luck at the casinos of Monte Carlo? ( Breakfast )


Day 14 - France

 
French Riviera.
Sightseeing

Rub shoulders with the rich and famous on the Nice promenade, shop for French fashion or laze the day away on the sun-drenched beaches - the choice is yours! ( Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 15 - Barcelona

 
French Riviera to Barcelona.
Sightseeing

We travel south today through the rustic countryside of Provence. As we skim past the Pyrénées we reach Spain and our destination, vibrant Barcelona. (Breakfast, Dinner)


Day 16 - Barcelona

 
Sightseeing

Our included sightseeing tour is a great introduction to this celebrated city. See Gaudi's Sagrada Familia Cathedral, the 1992 Olympic Complex and the Gothic district.

Shopping

A chance to experience Barcelona's famed shopping street La Rambla and discover some of Spain's specialties.

Performing Arts

Tonight why not experience the passion of Flamenco dancing? (Breakfast)


Day 17 - Bordeaux

 
Barcelona to Bordeaux.
Bus

We return to France today, past medieval cities, golden fields and vineyards.

Wine

This evening we reach the famous wine-producing town of Bordeaux. (Breakfast)


Day 18 - Paris

 
Bordeaux to Paris.
Sightseeing

Continuing north, we pass the chateaux of the Loire Valley and on to the splendour of Paris. ( Breakfast, Dinner )


Day 19 - Paris

 
Sightseeing

Today's sightseeing includes some of the most celebrated icons of Europe.

Perhaps take the opportunity to visit the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe or the Champs Elysées.

Food and Dining

Tonight, why not complete your Parisian experience with a French meal and a famous Parisian cabaret? ( Breakfast )


Day 20 - Paris

 
Paris to London.
Airport Transfer

After breakfast, there will be a transfer for you to Charles de Gaulle Airport (estimated arrival at 10:00 am) OR choose to take a complimentary transfer to central London with your Tour Manager and Driver and extend your stay. ( Breakfast )
