Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Lima

 
Depart Usa - Arrive Lima, Peru.
Airport Transfer

Welcome to Peru! Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Sightseeing

The balance of the day is free to begin exploring Lima on your own.

Stay at Hotel and Suites Las Americas (SF).


Day 2 - Lima

 
Sightseeing

A sightseeing tour begins at the Plaza Mayor, with its Colonial era treasures – the Government Palace, City Hall, the Cathedral and the Archbishop’s Palace.

Historical and Educational Tours

Next, on to the magnifi­cent 16th century San Francisco Monastery, whose cloisters are adorned with tiles from Seville.

Food and Dining

Then, a delicious gourmet lunch will be served at a restored 18th century mansion. Afterward, the rest of the day is free. (B,L)


Day 3 - Lima

 
Lima - Cuzco - Sacred Valley.
Commercial Flight

Transfer to the airport for the scenic flight to Cuzco.

Sightseeing

Upon arrival, travel to Urubamba, better known as “The Sacred Valley of the Incas,” one of the most beautiful areas found anywhere in the world. Visit Ollantaytambo where you will take a walking tour through the quaint village and mix with locals. Continue outside of town and admire the mighty Inca fortress.

Arts, Crafts and Antiques

End the day at Pisac, where you can bargain with the ­vendors for Peruvian arts and crafts. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Machu Picchu

 
Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu.
Train

Transfer to Ollanta Station for the Vistadome train journey to Machu Picchu.

Sightseeing

There is time to explore the magnificent ruins of the “Lost City of the Incas” on your own after a guided walking tour.

Food and Dining

Enjoy lunch at Sanctuary Lodge before making the short trip to Machu Picchu Village and your hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Cuzco

 
Machu Picchu - Cuzco.
Hiking

Return to Machu Picchu with your local guide for last impressions of this extraordinary monument. Hikers may want to climb Huayna Picchu.

Train

This afternoon, transfer by train back to Cuzco, where the evening is free. (B,L)

Day 6 - Cuzco

 
Historical and Educational Tours

Cuzco is a city enveloped in myth and legend. With a history of more than 3,000 years, it is one of the oldest existing cities in the Americas. Traces of its Incan and Spanish heritage can still be seen today.

Sightseeing

A ­morn­ing city tour shows you the Plaza del Regocijo, Plaza de Armas, and the Cathedral. Then, visit the San Blas district, with its historic church and its wealth of arts and crafts.

Sightseeing

Also, visit ­several Inca ruins including the fortresses of Sacsayhuaman and Tambomachay. The remainder of the day is free.

Food and Dining

Dinner tonight is at a popular local restaurant complete with Peruvian folkloric music. (B,D)


Day 7 - Puno

 
Cuzco - Puno.
Train

Transfer to the train station for the first class train trip to Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca. This area is the cradle of the Aymara civiliza­tion and the birthplace of the Inca Empire.

Sightseeing

After checking into your hotel, the ­balance of the day is free to adjust to the altitude and perhaps begin exploring on your own. (B,L)

Day 8 - Puno

 
Lake Titicaca Excursion.
Sailing

Set sail for a fascinating day on Lake Titicaca. First, visit one of the floating islands of the Uros. For hundreds of years the livelihood of this “water tribe” was based on the benefits of the totora reed. The reed is used to build their homes, boats, and the islands they live on.

Sightseeing

Next, travel to Taquile Island and meet the Quechua-speaking natives who are renowned for their hand-weaving techniques. After lunch, return to Puno, where your evening is free. (B,L)


Day 9 - Lima

 
Puno - Lima.
Sightseeing

Depart from Puno later this morning and stop in ancient Sillustani. See the intriguing “chullpas” or burial towers of the Colla people.

Commercial Flight

Then continue on to the airport in Juliaca for the return flight to Lima.

Hotel

Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel, where the balance of the day is at leisure. (B,L)


Day 10 - Ica

 
Lima - Ica - Nazca Lines Flight.
Bus

Travel along the Pan American Highway to Ica.

Museums

Stop and visit the Ica Archaeological Museum with its collection of Nazca Indian artifacts.

Commercial Flight

Then a highlight: board your aircraft for the flight over the Nazca Lines – a series of drawings of animals and geometric figures etched into the parched soil thousands of years ago, some up to 1,000 feet long.

Food and Dining

After this breathtaking experience, head to your hotel in Ica for dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 11 - Lima

 
Ica - Ballestas Excursion - Lima.
River, Barge or Yacht Cruise

Board a yacht and cruise to the Ballestas Islands, which are inhabited by a wide variety of sea mammals and exotic birds, including sea lions, boobies, and Hum­boldt ­penguins. The bay’s beautiful red and white flamingos supposedly inspired General San Martin to design the independence flag for Peru.

Sightseeing

The huge Candelabro, a candelabra-shaped etching on the Paracas cliffside, can also be seen as you cruise back to shore.

Food and Dining

Return to Lima for a special Peruvian Farewell Dinner at a unique local restaurant. (B,D)


Day 12 - Lima

 
Depart Lima - USA.
Airport Transfer

This morning transfer to the airport for your flight home. (B)
