Savor the crafts, culture and hospitality of Laos with a river trip, visits to ancient temples, a gorgeous palace and traditional villages. This trip includes comfortable hotels and intimate cultural encounters.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Vientiane

 
Sightseeing

Upon arrival at the airport, meet your guide, followed by a brief tour of Vientiane. Vientiane is the largest city in Laos, and you will visit sights such as Pha Tha Luang, Lao's most important and imposing monument. Legend has it that Ashokan missionaries from India erected a stupa here to enclose a breastbone of the Buddha as early as the 3rd century BC.

Overnight at a centrally located hotel.


Day 2 - Vientiane

 
Vientiane / Luang Prabang.
Sightseeing

After breakfast, you visit some more of Vientiane's temples such as Wat Si Saket, with its thousands of Buddha images, and Wat Ong Teu Mahawihan (Temple of the Heavy Buddha), one of the most important in all of Laos.

You also visit the central market.

Commercial Flight

Then fly to Luang Prabang in the afternoon.

Luang Prabang is known for its historic temples and lovely mountain-encircled setting. You enjoy a city tour visiting sites such as Wat Wisunalat, one of the city's oldest temples, and Wat Xieng Thong, Luang Prabang's most magnificent temple.

Hotel

Overnight at a local hotel. Meals: Breakfast.


Day 3 - Luang Prabang

 
Mekong River.
River, Barge or Yacht Cruise

In the morning, embark on a boat trip along the Mekong River, the longest and most important water route in Laos.

Sightseeing

You will travel to Tam Tin Cave, found in the lower part of a limestone cliff stuffed with Buddha images, and Bang Sang Hai, a village that means "Jar-Maker Village" because at one time it was the local cottage industry.

Sightseeing

After a picnic lunch, visit the weaving village of Ban Phanom, a Thai Lu village well known for its cotton and silk hand weaving.

Hotel

In the afternoon, return to Luang Prabang for dinner and your overnight. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch.


Day 4 - Luang Prabang

 
Luang Prabang / Kuangsi Waterfall.
Sightseeing

Today you depart on a car excursion to Kuangsi Waterfall (about 18 miles from Luang Prabang), a beautiful spot that features a wide, multi-tiered waterfall tumbling over limestone formations into a series of cool, turquoise green pools.

Sightseeing

You also visit the minority Kmu Village, where you find a cool stream, rustic dam and several miniature waterfalls to enjoy a picnic lunch.

Hotel

Return to Luang Prabang for another overnight stay. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch.


Day 5 - Vientiane

 
Luang Prabang / Vientiane.
Museums

After breakfast, visit the Phousi Temples where you have excellent views of Luang Prabang and the Royal Palace Museum, once a residence for King Sisavang Vong and his family, to see the silver and gold handicrafts.

Commercial Flight

After lunch, you transfer to the airport for a return flight to Vientiane.

Overnight at a local hotel. Meals: Breakfast


Day 6 - Vientiane

 
Vientiane / Onward.
Sightseeing

Visit Wat Xieng Khouane (Buddha Park) after breakfast, where you can see the collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures in a meadow by the side of the Mekong River.

Airport Transfer

After lunch, transfer to the airport for your onward flight. Meals: Breakfast.
