Safari

Kambi ya Tembo Camp, formerly Sinya Camp, is on a private concession located near the border of Kenya near Amboseli National Park. The area offers spectacular views of snow covered Mt. Kilimanjaro. This is one of the few places in Tanzania that you will be able to experience night drives and walking safaris - escorted by Maasai warriors. The area has one of the biggest bull elephant populations in all of Africa. The elephants here have been studied for years by scientist Cynthia Moss. Enjoy game viewing activities in open vehicles, cross cultural interactions with a visit to a Maasai Boma and walking safaris. There is also the option for a night game drive.

Camping

Dinner and overnights at Kambi ya Tembo Camp. Meals: 2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches, 2 Dinners.

Day 4 - Tanzania

Tarangire National Park.
National Parks

After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park. This is the classic Africa of lore with shimmering acacia stands, old baobab trees, and herds of elephant.

Safari

On arrival, game drive toward the Tarangire Safari lodge, beautifully sited on a bluff over-looking the Tarangire River, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy another game drive around the park.

Camping

Return to the Tarangire Safari Lodge, or similar, for dinner and overnight.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 5 - Tanzania

Tarangire National Park.
Safari

You will have a full day of game-viewing, exploring Tarangire National Park in a 4WD safari vehicle. In the dry-season of July-October, Tarangire National Park surpasses the Serengeti in terms of animal concentration as big herds begin to congregate around the permanent water of Tarangire River. It is not uncommon to see herds of 50+ elephant, as well as every other mammal species, including the rare Kudu and Oryx. The park is also noted for its prolific bird life and the occasional sighting of cheetah and the rare African Hunting Dog.

Relaxation

Return to the Lodge for brunch, relaxing at the camp during the hottest hours of the day, before setting out again in the afternoon.

Camping

Dinner and Overnight at Tarangire Safari Lodge, or similar.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 6 - Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara / Mto Wa Mbu Village Tour.
National Parks

Depart for Lake Manyara after breakfast, traversing the Great African Rift Valley, and arriving at Kirurumu Tented Lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, game drive around Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara National Park was immortalized in Hemingway's "Green Hills Of Africa" and represents a habitat distinct from elsewhere in your safari.

Safari

The afternoon game drive will allow you to explore the ground-water forest, rich in birds and monkeys, visit the hippo pool, and see the acacia woodlands that border the soda lake swathed in the pink of the resident flamingos.

Sightseeing

There is also the option to stop and explore Mto Wa Mbu, the nearby market town.

Camping

Dinner and overnight at Kirurumu Tented Lodge, or similar, overlooking Lake Manyara.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 7 - Tanzania

Serengeti National Park.
Private Car Service

After an early breakfast, you will carve your way through the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Highlands, en route to the Serengeti.

Sightseeing

Stop at Olduvai Gorge to visit the site where Mary and Louis Leakey first discovered the remains of Zinjanthropus Bosei, a distant ancestor of man believed to be 1.8 million years old, Australopithecus Bosei, the 'Nutcracker Man,' a species that became extinct about 1 million years ago and fossilized foot prints that date back 3.6 million years.

Safari

From here the predator-rich plains of the Serengeti unfurl before you as you game drive through the park to arrive at Ikoma Camp just before dusk.

Camping

Dinner and overnight at an Asilia camp, Mbuzi Mawe, or similar, for two nights.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 8 - Tanzania

Serengeti National Park.
Safari

Enjoy a day of hiking and game drives to explore the Serengeti, the most famous National Park in Africa. Track the wildlife as it takes advantage of the cool temperatures to find water and food. Your guides are invaluable when it comes to finding tracks and spotting distant animals, but the principal attraction is learning about the birds and plant-life that form such an important part of the Serengeti eco-system. Your driver-guide will choose your route based on his extensive knowledge of the park and local conditions, but the Serengeti rarely disappoints.

Adventure

You will have a packed lunch to take with you so as to make the most of the day, but your trip might include a trail along the banks of the Grumeti River in search of basking lions, tracking cheetah through the Gol Kopjes or hunting leopard (with cameras) along the Seronera River.

Camping

Return to camp for your dinner and overnight.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 9 - Tanzania

Ngorongoro Crater.
Safari

After breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Crater, with a final Serengeti game drive en-route, to arrive at the Lodge in time for lunch.

Safari

You will then descend down the 2000-ft walls of the Crater, a World Heritage Site and home to nearly 25,000 animals, for a game drive. Here you have a very real chance of spotting the big five: lion, elephant, endangered black rhino, buffalo and leopard plus countless other African mammal species.

Hotel

Return to the Ngorongoro Farm House, or similar, just before dusk.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 10 - Tanzania

Ngorongoro Crater.
Hiking

After an early breakfast, you will meet your guide and ranger that will accompany you to Olmoti Crater for a full day hike with a packed lunch. Olmoti is one of the lesser known craters that stud the highland region and is away from the usual tourist trails. Visit the Munge Falls, named after the colobus tail that it is said to resemble and examine the birds and plants that lie on the forested slopes.

Safari

There is also game in the area such as buffalo, bushbuck, Waterbuck and others, and we must be careful to stay close to the group and ranger as buffaloes can be aggressive, if taken by surprise.

Hotel

Return to the Ngorongoro Farm House, or similar, for your dinner and overnight.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Day 11 - 12 - Tanzania

Hadzabee Tribe.
Hiking

After breakfast, you will be introduced to your local guide, a member of one of the tribes, who will accompany you in the area. Take an afternoon hike to meet the Wahadzabee people.

Sightseeing

Due to their nomadic lifestyle, it is difficult to predict where you will find them, but your guide will know where to look. The Wahadzabee tend to shadow the movements of the wildlife, as they are hunters, and rely upon the migrations as their food source, however your guide generally knows where they are staying. Spend the days learning about their lifestyles and traditions, and possibly visiting the caves where they often spend their nights, while hunting. The waHadzabee are of cushitic background, and are very similar to their Kalahari Bushmen relatives. They still use bow and arrows for hunting and speak a click-based language.

Adventure

While traveling through this area, you may also see smaller game such as dik-dik and lesser kudu.

Country Inn

Dinner and overnights at Kisima Ngeda (or similar).
Meals: 2 Breakfasts, 2 Lunches, 2 Dinners.

Day 13 - Arusha

Arusha / Onward.
Private Car Service

Drive back to Arusha for lunch.

Airport Transfer

In the evening, transfer to the airport for your flight home, or extend your stay with a visit to the exotic island of Zanzibar or to Ng'iresi or Longido villages.
Meals: Breakfast.
