Detailed Trip Description
Umbwe route is the hardest but most magnificent and shortest way to reach Uhuru Peak. A Less-frequented route, which is very steep and suitable only for experienced trekkers. This is a very technical Route.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1 - Tanzania
Umbwe Gate {1400m} - Umbwe Hut { 2850m}.
Private Car Service
Drive along the Kibosho road near Moshi town up to the Umbwe Gate.
Hiking
Introduction to your guide and porters before registration. Thereafter start climb with picnic lunch passing through rain forest and giant trees for 4 to 5hours.
Camping
Arrive for dinner and overnight at Umbwe Hut.
Day 2 - On Foot
Umbwe Hut {2850m} - Barranco Hut {3950m}.
Mountain Climbing
After breakfast, with lunch packets start climbing passing through vegetations, easy rocks and small Glacier for 5 to 6 hours.
Camping
Arrive for dinner and overnight at Barranco Hut.
Day 3 - On Foot
Barranco Hut {3950m} - Barafu Hut {4600m}.
Hiking
After breakfast, with picnic lunch packets, start climbing again through easy rocks and glacier for 4 to 5 hours before arriving for dinner at Barafu Hut.
Camping
Overnight at Barafu Hut.
Day 4 - On Foot
Barafu Hut {4600m} - Stella Point {5600m} to Uhuru Peak {5895m} - Horombo Hut{3700m}.
Hiking
Very early around 0100 hours, light breakfast and start climb to the summit (alt.5895m), short rest thereafter descend to Barafu hut for lunch enroute to Mweka Hut (alt.3000m).
Day 5 - Arusha
Private Car Service
Final descent to the Mweka gate and transfers to Arusha.
