This is an opportunity to see Bhutan's unsurpassed majestic mountain terrain and pristine rivers, and to explore the unique ancient Buddhist monasteries and vibrant culture of one of the least traveled lands in Asia. The number of travelers allowed into Bhutan each year is limited in order to protect its fragile environment and culture. The tour includes the following: - Half-day trek to Tiger's Nest Monastery - 4-day Druk Trek - 1-day trek to hotsprings camp - 1-day river rafting - 1-day bicycling - Cultural tours in Paro, Thimphu, Phobjikha, and Punakha

Day 1 - Paro

 
Arrive in Paro.

Arrive Paro; check into hotel.

Sightseeing

Explore Paro on foot or bike.

Day 2 - Paro

 
Hiking

Hike to Taktsang Monastery.

Hotel

Overnight at hotel in Paro.


Day 3 - Paro

 
Hiking

Starting at the museum, trek to Jele Dzong (dist. 7k/elev. 2590m).

Camping

Overnight camping.


Day 4 - Paro

 
Hiking

Trek to Jimilangtshoa along a trail that takes you through thick alpine forest and rhododendron trees with beautiful views of the mountains and the valley (dist. 20k/elev. 3350m).

Camping

Overnight camping near Jimilangtsho Lake.


Day 5 - Paro

 
Hiking

Trek to Phajoding on a trail that continues with a gradual climb with beautiful views of Mt. Gangkhar Phunsum (dist. 21k/elev. 3116m).

Camping

Overnight camping near a monastery.


Day 6 - Thimphu

 
Hiking

The scenic trek to Thimphu is downhill through a blue pine forest (dist. 8k); enjoy a leisurely evening.

Day 7 - Wangdi Phodrang

 
Sightseeing

Sightseeing in Thimphu visiting Memorial Chorten, Painting School, National Library, Bhutanese Hand Made Paper factory.

Sightseeing

After lunch drive to Punakha and Wangdi over Dochula Pass (elev. 3050m) where one can see beautiful views of the eastern Himalayan mountain ranges.

Overnight at hotel in Wangdi.


Day 8 - Wangdi Phodrang

 
Hiking

In the morning at about 8 AM drive up to Samdenkha (30 minutes) and then start the days hike to the hotsprings. The hike takes about 5 hrs.

Camping

Spend the night in camp at the hotsprings.


Day 9 - Punakha

 
Rafting

In the morning at about 8 AM start hike back down to the put in for the Pho Chhu for a nice class II/III raft trip down to the Punakha School.

Sightseeing

After a bit of time to relax and tea visit the Punakha Dzong.

Day 10 - Bhutan

 
Private Car Service

Drive to Phobjikha by car (2 hrs).

Sightseeing

Visit the Gangtey Monastery. The remote Phobjikha Valley (no electricity) is one of the most beautiful valleys in Bhutan.

Overnight at hotel in Phobjikha.


Day 11 - Punakha

 
Bicycling

A modedrate cycling tour back to Punakha (62 k/6 hrs) from Phobjikha Valley through Lawa La, Nobding, Teki Zampa and Wangdue Phodrang, past several restaurants and shops to a new Japanese bridge spaning the Dang Chhu

Day 12 - Paro

 
Bicycling

Drive from Punakha to Paro, with the option to bike from the Dochula Pass downhill to Thimphu.

Day 13 - Paro

 
Airport Transfer

Depart Paro.
