Detailed Trip Description

To enjoy the Southern regions of Africa is not only to enjoy its rich culture and diverse wilderness but also offers the opportunity to sail close to seals, to watch waddling penguins on Boulders Beach, sneak up to lion in the bush in a 4 x 4 vehicle and tease the senses with mouth watering cuisine washed down by award winning wines. A little north hears the thunder of Victoria Falls as its waters plunge down a gorge with might, allowing fine spray to land gently on your face.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 - Cape Town

 
Cape Town, South Africa
Commercial Flight

Arrive in Johannesburg where we will meet in the international arrivals terminal for a trip briefing. We will assist you in boarding your domestic flight to Cape Town.

Private Car Service

We will meet you at the airport for a private road transfer to Colona Castle.

Hotel

Colona Castle offers majestic panoramic views over Table Mountain, False Bay and the South Atlantic Ocean. It is a small luxury hotel with five air-conditioned suites catering to comfort and convenience. Overnight at Colona Castle – Safari Suite (B).


Day 2 - Cape Town

 
Full day tour of Cape Town.
Sightseeing

We will meet you at the hotel reception this morning just after breakfast (around 8am) to start a full day tour of Cape Town. Firstly, we travel to Table Mountain take the cable car to the flat summit with its misty mountain trails and panoramic views across ocean and shore. Cable car entrance is not included since the activity is dependent on good weather.

Beach

Your peninsula tour continues to historic Simonstown and the boardwalks of the penguin-breeding colony at picturesque Boulders Beach. Sandy coves permit safe family bathing and encounters with the penguins in the sea.

Sightseeing

Your tour continues along the Cape Peninsula, with its fishing harbors, sheer cliffs and wave-swept coves to the incredible splendor of Cape Point and the old Cape Point Lighthouse, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. Then visit the fishing village of Hout Bay and head back to your Castle.

Day 3 - Cape Town

 
Enjoy full day Wine tasting tour of the Winelands.
Wine

Again we meet you at the hotel reception this morning just after breakfast (around 8am) to start a full day Wine tasting tour of the Winelands. Driving to Paarl via Agter Paarl (a scenic detour), first port of call is the Laborie wine estate (belonging to KWV). Taste some international award winning wines. Continue to Franschoek, and en route view the prison from which Nelson Mandela was finally released. Franschoek is named after the French Hugenots who arrived in the Cape and contributed significantly to making the Cape Wine industry world class. Visit Rickety Bridge and Dieu Donne Estates.

Sightseeing

After lunch visit the French Huguenot Memorial, and continue to the second oldest town in South Africa – Stellenbosch. Visit the museum (consisting of 4 original houses) and enjoy exploring two more old Cape Wine Estates in the Stellenbosch region.

Day 4 - Cape Town

 
Enjoy Robben Island tour.

A trip to Cape Town is not complete without Robben island. So we take in some of the special and historical interest buildings as we drive through Cape Town city. A tour of the Castle of Good Hope, the first recorded building in South Africa, demonstrates the many influences which have shaped South Africa’s history. Drive via District Six to the original Government Gardens. A short walk in the gardens allows for viewing of Parliament, national galleries, museums and other historic buildings. Time for specific interest tours is allowed eg: natural history, cultural galleries or museums.

Museums

A short drive to the Bo Kaap museum, in the old Malay quarter of Cape Town, highlights a group of people who have contributed much to the culture of Cape Town. Continue down to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and the Nelson Mandela Gateway.

Ferry

Board a ferry to cross Table Bay to visit Robben Island. The two Oceans aquarium can be visited either before or after Robben Island (included in tour cost).

Day 5 - Victoria Falls

 
Enjoy full day in Victoria Falls.
Commercial Flight

We meet you at Colona Castle for a private road transfer to Cape Town airport and a flight to Johannesburg where you check into your international flight to Livingstone or Victoria Falls international airport.

Airport Transfer

On arrival at Victoria Falls we will be waiting for you at the airport to road transfer you to the Zambezi Sun Hotel.

Hotel

During peak season (January through mid July), the Zambian side of the Falls is most spectacular. Paths in the rainforest, downstream of the Falls, take you to look out points. Children’s activities and baby sitting available at Camp Kwena for all children 2 – 12 years. Children 2 – 4 must be accompanied by an adult or babysitter arrange by through the hotel. Day 6 - Victoria Falls

 
Enjoy natural spectacle in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Sightseeing

From the hotel it is only a 5 minute walk to the entrance of Victoria Falls and in peak season the mist from the spray is so thick you can’t see to the other side of The Falls. Perhaps take a helicopter flight for a bird’s eye view of this natural spectacle. (optional extra)

Day 7 - Victoria Falls

 
Explore Victoria Falls.
Sightseeing

A comprehensive list of activities is available to guests from the day activity center, which may be booked on arrival or with us prior to your departure. Please enquire and we will email you a complete list. You may also choose some activities on the Zimbabwe side such as a lion walk, we will arrange all the transfers. (optional extra).

Day 8 - South Africa

 
Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa.
Commercial Flight

We transfer you back to the airport for a flight to Johannesburg where one of our driver guides is waiting for you.

Private Car Service

We drive north to Madikwe Game Reserve snugly fitting beneath the border to Botswana. This is a 4 hour trip but we can stop at Hartebeespoort Dam for you to browse through the African Market and our driver guide will have many stories about the area to keep you entertained. Alternative fly in option on request.

Sightseeing

On the far northern border of South Africa lies a beautiful area known as the Great Marico and it is in this spectacular setting, in the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve, that Tau Game Lodge is situated. It is privately owned and has 27 major species including wild dog, cheetah and the Big 5 – elephant, leopard, lion, buffalo and rhino.

Day 9 - 10 - South Africa

 
Enjoy activities at Madikwe Game Reserve, South Africa.
Safari

The lodge and the 30 rustic thatched chalets overlook a natural waterhole, which attracts a wide variety of wildlife. While at the lodge which offers luxury as well as excellent view of animals approaching the water, you enjoy hearty meals and 2 game drives per day. Children aged 3 to 5 years automatically become members of the Tau Cubz Club, which is great fun and includes a short game drive after breakfast just for the kids. After their game drive, children are entertained with treasure hunts and arts and crafts activities. The children are provided with their own Cubz Club backpacks, which are filled with a wildlife activity booklet, which includes an animal sticker checklist, a deputy ranger sticker badge and certificate, (which is signed off by their personal ranger) as well as a special Tau T-shirt. A large playroom is also reserved for children’s arts and crafts and other supervised activities. The chef offers additional child-friendly food to complement the adult meals, including plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Children between 6 and 11 years old can join the adult safaris, they will however also be issued with a special Cubz Club activity booklet and are welcome to join their siblings during the Cubz club activities.

Day 11 - Johannesburg

 
Transfer to Johannesburg.

It is time to head back today and we will have our driver guide waiting at reception after breakfast and check out to make the transfer to Johannesburg. Meal Plan: Breakfast
