Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest mountain, the largest free standing mountain in the world, one of the worlds most accessible high altitude mountains, and for hikers, a climatic hiking experience from the tropics to arctic conditions. Climbers need a good level of fitness to enjoy the experience. The Mt Kilimanjaro climbing adventure starts with a 4X4 rough road drive to the western slopes of Kilimanjaro to reach the trail head at Londrossi gate. Lemosho route is remote and spectacular, with dramatic gorges and views of west Kilimanjaro. It joins the south circuit route (Machame) for the summit ascent after a tough hike on Shire Plateau (weather exposed). Seven days climbing on Lemosho is good for acclimatizing the body in preparation for a successful summit ascent. Descent is via Mweka route. Climbers sleep in spacious tents. Airport transfers and two hotel nights are included in the package. Private climbs for a minimum of 2 people. Experienced mountain teams provide excellent service and ensure your safety
The day begins with a scenic 4X4 drive to Londorossi Park Gate (2100m) for registration. Begin hiking along a forest trail to reach Mti Mkubwa (big tree) campsite (2,750m. 3 to 4 hrs).
Leaving the forest, the trail gets steeper as it enters the moorland zone towards Gane and Marshall One Valley. A gentle grade hike cuts across the high altitude Shira Caldera to Shira Cave camp site with stunning views of Arrow glacier en-route (3,500m - 6 to 7 hours).
Hike eastwards across Shira Plateau and Shira Cathedral, crossing the moorland meadow to reach Shira Hut 2 for dinner and overnight camping (3,840m).
The rocky and rugged eastward trail ascends to the base of the Lava Tower for a picnic lunch (4,630m - 5 to 6 hrs). This is a short distance hike to help acclimatization. From the Lava Tower there is a 680m descent to the Barranco camp site (3,950m - 2 to 3hrs). The camp is situated in a valley below the Western Breach and Great Barranco Wall.
Wake up to see a sheer wall of rock - Baranco Wall, locally known as 'breakfast'. The route starts as a scramble up Baranco Wall (which is easier than it looks) to top out just below the Heim Glacier. The route then heads through the Karanga Valley to reach Barafu campsite (4,550m - 7 to 8 hrs).
Your wake-up call is accompanied by a hot drink and light snack and a final briefing from your guide. The summit ascent begins around midnight while the scree is still frozen. The first stage is a steep climb to reach Stella Point to catch the sunrise (5,700m). The route then flattens along the crater rim for the final stage, to reach the ice capped summit. Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) can be reached in 1 to 2 hours. After a short rest on the top (it's too cold to linger) begin the descent to return to Barafu for breakfast and a short rest before heading down the trail to Mweka campsite for your final night on Kilimanjaro (3100m).
After a well-deserved breakfast and team 'thank you', it is a short 4 to 5 hour scenic hike on a well defined, rocky trail down to reach Mweka National Park gate. Pick up your Kilimanjaro summit certificates before joining your waiting vehicle for the journey to the hotel in Moshi to enjoy your final night in Tanzania.
