Detailed Trip Description
See much more than the basic European treasures on this magnificent vacation. Start in London, then cross the Channel by ferry and board your motorcoach bound for Amsterdam. Experience the Rhineland and spend the night in historic Heidelberg, then see parts of the Black Forest and stop at Lake Titisee and the Rhine Falls before reaching Lucerne. On to Swiss-Italian Lugano, a prelude to the border crossing into Italy to reach Venice. Enjoy a canal boat ride to St. Mark's with a Local Guide explaining the main features of the Piazza and the Basilica. Stop in Assisi to visit St. Francis' Basilica, then on to the “Eternal City" of Rome with sightseeing that highlights the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. In Florence, a Local Guide shows you Piazza Santa Croce, Palazzo Vecchio, and the Duomo. Stop in Pisa to admire the Leaning Tower and drive along the Italian and French Riviera to reach your overnight hotel. On the way to Lyon, stop in Nîmes and Avignon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Head north through Burgundy to ancient Beaune before reaching Paris, where guided city sightseeing acquaints you with the main sights. Extension 5175 returns to London by motorcoach and ferry Channel crossing and includes one night in London.

An early start this morning through parts of the scenic Black Forest for a stop in lovely Titisee, famous for its cuckoo clocks. Stop awhile at the Rhine Falls near Schaffhausen before heading through the green meadows and picturesque wooded valleys of Switzerland to Lake Lucerne for two overnights. (B)

Sightseeing
One of Switzerland’s finest cities, nestled amid its snow-capped Alps, surrounded by its lake, and embellished by the clear mountain waters of the River Reuss. Your sightseeing takes in the impressive city walls, a covered wooden bridge, ornate patrician houses lining cobblestone streets, and the Lion Monument—a masterful stone sculpture in honor of the heroic Swiss Guard of Louis XVI.

A grand selection of optional activities completes the day: a cruise on the fjord-like lake; a cable car ride to the 10,000-foot summit of Mount Titlis.

Traffic is banned in part of the historic center so visitors can wander at leisure and admire the city’s timeless beauty in relative peace and quiet.
