The Golf Course
The Steenberg Golf Club is an exclusive, private golf club set in idyllic surroundings.
The course attracts golfers seeking a total golfing experience. Known for its hybrid plan, it offers traditionalists the opportunity to “bump and run” (a rare shot in South Africa) in the rough around the greens, and to meet the challenges of strategically placed sand pits and waterways.
The par-three, not-so-short 14th hole, features the largest green in Africa at 76 meters in length; indigenous shrubs guard the green and the mound has been shaped to echo the distinctive mountain range behind. Steenberg has always been named as one of the best conditioned courses in South Africa Golf Digest’s annual Top 100, consistent in its improvement each year.
The 18 hole course was designed to make full use of natural features and hazards such as the vineyards, pine forest and gentle waterways. Its environmental diversity gives the course its unique character.
The Steenberg Golf Club is open to the public, but priority and special green fee rates are given to hotel guests and members.
The well-designed and refurbished clubhouse has seen many golfers enjoying the 19th hole.

Hunting

Our location in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa makes us a perfect extension to the Garden Route and Cape Town. Cape Town and Port Elizabeth airports allow visitors to South Africa to save precious holiday time - many of our guests fly into Cape Town, drive along the Garden Route and end with a safari at Lalibela. Check out time at Lalibela allows for guests to fly out of Port Elizabeth and connect with international flights from either Cape Town or Johannesburg, which depart in the evenings.
The popularity of doing a safari in the Eastern Cape has grown and this is borne out by the fact that our region boasts a variety of safari products such as Addo Elephant National Park, Shamwari, Kwandwe, Gorah, Kariega, Amakhala and, of course, Lalibela.
Malaria-free:
Increasingly, people are choosing to have their safari in a malaria-free area. The Eastern Cape is malaria-free, which means that your safari at Lalibela can be enjoyed without having to take any anti-malaria medication. Enjoy your African safari in a malaria-free game reserve in South Africa.
